Which Lectern Base Is Right for You?

Focus Series lectern baseNot every lectern does the same job. Some stay in place year-round, others are reconfigured daily. Some support long presentations, others quick discussions and collaborative use. That’s why choosing the right lectern base for your space is so important.

Valley Design offers lectern base options designed to meet a wide range of needs, from durability-driven environments to spaces where flexibility and aesthetics matter more.

What to Consider When Selecting a Lectern Base

  1. The Environment

Educational, corporate, healthcare, and hospitality spaces all place different demands on performance and appearance.Focus series genu-tilt lectern

  2. The Primary User

A teacher, presenter, or student may need different height ranges, surface sizes, or accessibility features.

  3. The Mobility

Some applications benefit from mobility and adjustability, while others prioritize stability.

Our Lectern Options

Valley Design currently offers two primary lectern base series, each designed with distinct priorities in mind.

Escalate single column lectern base Durable & Flexible: The Escalate Series

The Escalate Series is designed for demanding, high-use environments such as educational settings. It features a robust U-shaped base that balances strength with open access.

The base uses a 1½” x 3” main bar with knock-in end caps available in black or silver to complement the finish. The open U-shape provides generous legroom and supports collaborative use.

Configuration options include:

Escalate double column lectern base

Both configurations can integrate a pneumatic height-adjustable column – offering 18” of adjustment starting at 27.17” – as well as locking casters for easier repositioning.

For applications that require mobility as a standard feature, a modified Escalate version pairs a drop-down main bar with locking casters, creating a usable height range from 29.17” to 46.86”.

Streamlined & Adaptable: The Focus SeriesFocus Series V-base, lectern base

The Focus Series takes a more streamlined approach, combining functionality with a refined, modern profile. Built from 2.5” wide by 1.25” thick aluminum, it’s ideal for corporate, hospitality, and healthcare environments.

Within this series, there’s two available base designs:

  • The V-base, featuring a 30-degree angled leg and supporting tops up to 24” x 30”.
  • The H-base, supporting larger tops up to 24” x 36”.Focus Series H-base, lectern base

Both styles offer round or square column options and can incorporate a pneumatic height-adjustable column with 17.63” of adjustment, ranging from 26.10” to 46.13”.

Mobility options include 2” diameter locking casters or a wheelbarrow-style configuration that combines 1½” casters with levelers. This allows the unit to be tilted and rolled without relying on caster locks to stay in place.

When paired with the round column, the Focus Series can also include the Genu‑Tilt mechanism, allowing the work surface to tilt up to 15° for note taking or fold vertically 90° for presentations or compact storage.

Putting It Together

Lecterns perform best when their design is thoughtfully selected to support the demands of the space. How frequently it moves, who uses it, and the surrounding environment all help determine the ideal design and functionality. Whether that means the durability and flexibility of the Escalate Series or the streamlined, adaptable design of the Focus Series, the right lectern base delivers reliable support and performance tailored to the user’s needs.
