May Aasum (pronounced awesome – which fits her perfectly) joined Valley Design in 2021 as an Account Clerk, and since then she’s grown into her current role as Office Accountant, bringing a natural attention to detail and a genuine love of numbers along the way. For May, accounting isn’t just a job. It’s something she truly enjoys, and that shows in the care she puts into her work.
Along with her accounting responsibilities, May also provides backup support to the shipping department. It’s given her a window into the shop floor she wouldn’t otherwise have, and she’s taken full advantage of it. May has made it a point to go deeper than the basics. She’s not just learning the basic operations of table base manufacturing, but how the different areas of the business connect and why it all matters. That kind of curiosity makes her a stronger part of the team.
Outside of the office, May is a busy mom of two young children. She lives in Fountain, just minutes away, which means less time commuting and more time where it counts — at home with her family. The work-life balance she’s found at Valley Design is something she genuinely values.
When asked to sum up her favorite part of working here in one word, May said it without hesitation: “Growth.” She’s seen it in the company, in the people around her, and in herself from new products and achievements to the relationships she’s built with coworkers, customers, and vendors over time.
Beyond her skill with numbers and desire to keep learning and growing, what stands out about May is straightforward. She genuinely enjoys what she does and the people she does it with. In her own words, “I get to do what I love and love what I do.”
