Summer is the busiest times of the year at Valley Design. Between increased production demands, long days, and the Minnesota heat, it’s the most demanding seasons for our team. Through it all, our employees continue to show up each day with dedication, craftsmanship, and an impressive work ethic.
That commitment is something we never take for granted.
It’s why, every August, we come together for one of our favorite traditions: our annual employee appreciation picnic. More than just a company gathering, it’s an opportunity to thank the employees and families whose hard work and support make everything we do possible.
A Tradition That Has Grown Alongside Us
Our annual employee picnic has been part of Valley Design for decades.
In the early years, employees and their families spent the afternoon at a local go-kart and waterslide park, enjoying rides, games, food, and gifts together.
As Valley Design continued to grow, the picnic found a new home at the Fountain Community Park, just a few blocks from our facilities, where we still gather today.
The location may have changed, but the tradition hasn’t. Each year, the picnic gives us an opportunity to pause, reconnect, and show our appreciation for the people who have helped shape Valley Design into the company it is today.
Taking Time Off Together
Of course, no Midwest company picnic would be complete without plenty of great food.
Butch and Luke Isensee spend much of the day behind the grill, while Brenda Isensee helps organize the desserts and side dishes.
True to Midwest tradition, there’s always enough for everyone to enjoy (and usually plenty left over for employees to take home).
Throughout the year, our purchasing team also works closely with suppliers to put together a great selection of employee gifts. Every option is appreciated, but if history tells us anything, the gifts that include a little extra PTO are usually the first to disappear.
The afternoon is just as much about spending time together as it is about the food.
Children and grandchildren stay busy with bounce houses and games while coworkers catch up over cornhole and ladder golf, sharing conversations that don’t revolve around production schedules or project deadlines. 
It’s a chance to slow down, relax, and enjoy each other’s company outside of work.
Celebrating 40 Years & Those Who Made It Possible
As we celebrate four decades in business in 2026, we’re grateful for the many people who have been part of our journey—from the new and longtime employees who have helped shape our company to the families who have supported them along the way.
Our annual employee appreciation picnic is one small example of the connections, memories, and moments that make Valley Design more than just a place to work.
