After 28 years at Valley Design, Laurie Bacon is beginning a well-earned retirement, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, adaptability, and dedication.
Throughout nearly three decades with our team, Laurie has worn many hats, from paint to fabrication to assembly, she’s built an incredible understanding of our manufacturing process while earning the respect and friendship of coworkers across the company.
A Career Built on Teamwork
Laurie began her career in Building 1 on the paint line during Valley Design’s early years, when everyone pitched in wherever they were needed. Whether she was prepping and hanging parts, unloading the paint line, or packaging finished products, Laurie was always willing to do what it took to keep production moving. As the company continued to grow and a second paint line was added, she transitioned into the role of Quality Inspector.
Her journey didn’t stop there.
Laurie later moved into Fabrication, where she learned and excelled in a wide variety of roles, including sanding, operating the punch machine, running the cope and notch machines, working with the robotic welder, and serving as a Waterstrider to keep materials flowing throughout production. Most recently, she brought that same dedication to Assembly, first as an assembler and later as the Assembly Waterstrider.
Having worked in nearly every production department, Laurie developed a unique perspective on how our products come together. Along the way, she trained new employees, supported countless teammates, and helped ensure the quality and efficiency our customers have come to expect from Valley Design.
When asked about her favorite role, Laurie says Fabrication stands out because of the variety of jobs she was able to learn and the experience she gained. More recently, she has especially enjoyed serving as the Assembly Waterstrider, helping make sure every table base leaves Valley Design complete and ready to meet our quality standards.
The Next Adventure
Outside of work, Laurie’s greatest joy has always been her family. She is the proud mother of four children – two daughters and two sons – and grandmother to seven grandchildren. Retirement means more time to spend with them, especially baking together, one of her favorite traditions. She’s also looking forward to traveling and embracing new adventures.
As Laurie begins this next chapter, she’s excited to slow down, create even more memories with her family, and enjoy everything retirement has to offer. When she reflects on her 28 years at Valley Design, what she’ll miss most are the people – the friendships she’s built, the laughter shared, and the memories made along the way.
